A Refreshing Day in Step with God

Where were you on Saturday?  If you weren’t able to join us at TBF Thompson Ministries in Garvagh for our Day of Refreshment you missed a lovely time of fellowship and reflection whilst walking ‘In Step with God’.   Wonderfully led by Joan Stockitt, our new Diocesan Faith and Policy Co-ordinator, and her husband, Reverend Doctor ‘Rocking’ Robin Stockitt, over 50 members from across the diocese were encouraged to reflect on what walking in step with God meant to each of us.

Using a reading from Luke 24 (the road to Emmaus) and then Psalm 37, Joan and Robin encouraged us to look at our relationship with God.    Joan used some very thought provoking pictures to get us thinking about how we interpret our relationship with God and how it can be different depending on what is happening in our lives.

When you get a group of women together it takes very little to get them talking and so it was when Robin posed two questions on the reading from Luke 24; “Why did the disciples not recognise Jesus? “and “Can you recall a time or a particular event in your life when you realised that God had been present with you?”

Next Robin took us on a journey through Psalm 37; during three readings he asked us to focus on what the words were saying to us, firstly the ‘Do nots’, then the ‘Do’s’ and finally ‘God’s role’.   This emphasised to us that we should not fret about what others do, but to trust and delight in the Lord and he will take care of us.  Following discussion and sharing we moved into a time of silent contemplation which was then brought to a close listening to a beautiful rendition of Psalm 131, composed by Margaret Rizza.

After a very enjoyable lunch, our time together came to a close with everyone participating in a service of Holy Communion.

As we all departed for home, the comments and feedback were of a renewing and refreshing day enjoyed by all who attended.  Thank you, Joan and Robin.
